Boots take on the Challenge!

Hi all - Sarah here!

For those that don't know, I work in Boots over in Telford as Stores Administrator (basically that means I don't technically work for a store but I work for the area!) But over the last few days, both the store team where I'm based and my Area/Regional team have taken on our challenge to raise as much money and do as many miles as possible.

First up we had our Team Bones fundraising day on Saturday in store and teamed up with Nuffield Health Gym around the corner who leant us some exercise bikes for the day! We had a great day with cake sales, raffles, tombolas, goody bags you name it! The girls in store were incredible at organising the event and we've been excited about it for weeks.

(A huge thank you to the guys from Nuffield who came in and supported!)

I did nearly fall off my bike though when a lady came up to me and introduced herself - she said she was shocked to see the T-shirts as she knows herself how rare the cancer is after her daughter had Osteosarcoma 3 years ago! She's now 11 and doing well which I was so happy to hear - but considering how rare everyone says it is, I was floored to meet someone on the day we were doing a fundraisisng event.. It makes you think, how many other people do you walk past in the street that may have been affected?

A HUGE thank you to everyone involved who help cycle 113 miles in around 6 hours and to each staff member and customer who donated to help us raise £173.47!

Next up today we've taken on the challenge with the Regional Team at Boots to climb the height of the Eiffel Tower not once, but TWICE at a Wall Climbing Centre!

It was definitely a challenge but was really great fun and it was safe to say the competitive side of the managers was certainly out on show!

One of the best things was that we were in charge of each other's ropes and it was us who had to ensure we didn't fall... all adds to the fun that's for sure!

We're hoping to have a sponsorship total from all of our stores by the end of the week so we'll know exactly how much we've raised hopefully in a few days - but we've kicked started it already by selling over £30 of raffle tickets! We even managed to rattle up another 9 and half miles on an exercise bike at the same time!

Thank you to everyone in Boots who's been involved in everything we've done so far both on Saturday at the Fundraising today and today at our Wall Climb! Every penny and every mile is so very much appreciated and I look forward to seeing what crazy plans we cook up next!

Luke Update and donated miles

Luke Update and donations

Well what a manic few weeks its been for the challenge!

In just under 2 weeks we have featured in the local paper in Shrewsbury, where Sarah now lives and also The Nottingham Post today. Means so much to know more and more people are finding out about the challenge and raising the awareness of bone cancer.

I just want to say what a great weekend its been for Sarah up in Shrewsbury where she held a fundraising day at Boots where plenty of miles were donated to our challenge and also raised nearly £200 towards our fundraising target! Great achievement and a massive thank you to anyone who helped with the fundraising day!

An update of miles from a lovely weekend down London with Emma where instead of travelling across the capital via the tube, taxi or bus we walked! Certainly feeling the effects still today as legs and feet still aching! With the challenge always on my mind we set about using my Steps app to track and monitor our miles everyday and to see how many miles we walked over the 3 days down there it really was an eye opener!

7.51 miles done on Friday (15.02miles)

Saturday 7.13 miles done (14.26 miles)

Sunday 5.91 miles done (11.82)

Sarah & Donated Mile Update!

This week we've had a big week for mileage and had lots of people donating again!

I've only had 2 gym sessions this week as I didn't want to over do it before yesterday's event (blog on this coming mid week after round 2) but I still managed to do nearly 40 miles in the week!

Thank you to Laura who spent the week in Scotland this week and racked up some miles walking for us as well as hitting the treadmill:

Laura Total: 25.51! (I definitely owe you a cocktail!)

Annie's been back in the gym this week too and did 2.6 miles for us! (Don't worry, I'll get you a cocktail too! ;))

Finally - thank you to Louise at work who did 6 miles in the gym for us earlier in the week! :)

Sarah Total this week: 35.25
Sarah total altogether: 161.25
Grand Total: 463.36!

Don't forget you can donate your miles just by letting us know how many miles you've done - you can also donate by texting LCSJ94 £1/2/3/5/10/etc to 70070!

Hitting the Shropshire Headlines!

So this week I (Sarah) hit the headlines not once, but TWICE within 3 days!

A photographer turned up without warning at work earlier last week and that lead to an impromptu photo shoot in the middle of the store with a colleague's bike! They then called the next day to do a mini interview over the phone and low and behold the next day we were FRONT PAGE of the local Telford paper!

It was so exciting to see we were front page with Bone Cancer in the heading! It was disappointing thought to see they'd made a couple of mistakes (especially around how long Caroline had the cancer for) but when I contacted her to let her know, she said she'd correct it and put it in the Shropshire county-wide paper which actually hit the headlines again on the Saturday of our event!

Despite the mistakes and horrendous photo on the second article in the Shropshire Star, I'm so happy with what coverage we've had in the last few days. A few people even came to our event after reading it in the paper!
